The largest opposition National Democratic Congress(NDC) has served notice that it will initiate extradition of Chinese illegal mining queen Aisha Huang to Ghana to face prosecution if the party returns to power.

The Senior Minister, Yaw Osafo Marfo justified the Akufo Addo government’s decision to deport Aisha Huang and not rather prosecute her.

Mr Yaw Osafo Marfo told a Town Hall meeting abroad that because of the good relationship Ghana has with the Chinese now, it does not serve any Ghanaian interest to have Aisha Huang jailed in Ghana for illegal mining, where she’s alleged to have committed the crime in connivance with several others.

“We have a very good relationship with China. Today, the main company that is helping develop the infrastructure system in Ghana is Sinohydro, it is a Chinese Company. It is the one that is going to help process our bauxite and provide about two billion dollars to us.”

“So when there are these kinds of arrangements, there are other things behind the scenes. Putting that lady (Aisha) in jail in Ghana is not going to solve your economic problems. It is not going to make you happy or me happy, that’s not important, the most important thing is that she has been deported from Ghana…”

“…I am saying that there are many other things beyond what we see in these matters and everybody is wide awake, the most important thing is that we have banned this, we have established regulations and we are protecting our environment. That is far more important than one Chinese woman who has been deported out of the country”.

But the NDC has taken strong exception to the pronouncement of Hon. Osafo Marfo and have threatened to pass a Ministerial censure on him if President Akufo Addo fails to sack him.

Speaking on News File on Saturday, the Ranking Member of the Parliamentary Committee on Foreign Affairs and NDC MP for North Tongu stated that the party will ensure Aisha Huang pays dearly for her crimes in Ghana including the killing of a Ghanaian citizen.

“I have the permission of my party leadership to announce today that a future NDC government will trigger extradition processes to have Aisha Huang to be brought back to be prosecuted in Ghana and I have the full backing of our Flagbearer to make this announcement.”

“… now we are hearing that apart from all her illegal mining offences, there’s also the case of murder or more. We do not want the impression to be created that Ghana is a banana republic such that you can come in and kill our people and leave.”
