Three leading members of the People’s National Convention (PNC) have raised concerns about issues surrounding the party’s upcoming National Congress slated for August 31, 2024.

The petitioners—former National Chairman Bernard Mornah, 2020 flagbearer aspirant, Samson Asaki Awingobit, and 2020 flagbearer aspirant Rev. Samuel Adjei Debrah — argue that the flagbearer filing fee of GH¢100,000 is excessive for a party struggling to stabilize.

They contend that the PNC is a party for the marginalized, and such a high fee creates an impression that it is no different from other political parties.

Furthermore, they believe the timeline for the Congress is problematic, as the August 31 date leaves the party with less than 90 days for effective preparation before the general elections, considering the Electoral Commission will open nominations in September.

The petitioners also highlight a conflict with the annual Homowo festival, which could disadvantage members from the Greater Accra Region. They note the absence of guidelines for the Congress, which is unusual, and question the lack of relevant committees to aid the party’s work.

In their petition addressed to Col. George Bayebor, Chairman of the PNC Council of Elders, David Apasera (2020 flagbearer), and all NEC members, they urged the leadership to address these issues promptly and rectify the gaps in the previous communication.
