Nii Amugi II, Ga Mantse, has gone to the village, the Ga Traditional Council announced on Thursday. He was 65.
Announcing the passing away at a press conference in Accra, Nii Adote Obuor II, Sempe Mantse said: "The Ga Traditional Council, on behalf of the Ga Dzase and the Amugi family announce with deepest sorrow the summoning of Nii Amugi II, the Ga Mantse, to join our illustrious forefathers in the village."
Nii Adote Obuor II, who is also the Acting President of the Ga Traditional Council, said Nii Amugi II, born on June 8, 1940, was enstooled in 1965 and reigned for 39 years.
"Our honoured Chief will be laid at rest at a date to be announced later after full funeral rites have been completed." Nii Adote Obuor II said a book of condolence would be opened at the Ga Mantse Palace at Kaneshie from Monday July 25 to Friday August 19 from 1000 hours to 1400 hours each day.
He said, "as the Ga State observes the period of mourning, the Homowo festivities this year will be expected to be celebrated with sober reflection over the grave loss".
