Ghanaians who set Guinness World Records in 2024

In 2024, several Ghanaians attempted and succeeded in breaking the Guinness World Record in various fields, including the longest hours spent cooking, singing, hugging trees, applying makeup, and more.

Below are some fascinating stories of Ghanaians who achieved Guinness World Records in 2024:

Ace Liam Nana Sam Ankrah

Ace Liam, who has been painting since he was six months old, was confirmed as the Guinness World Record holder for the Youngest Male Artist on Tuesday, May 14, 2024.

This one-year-old Ghanaian artist set the record during
an attempt in Accra from January 18 to January 20, 2024, breaking the previous record held by 3-year-old American Lante Lamb.

Abdul Hakim Awal

Abdul Hakim Awal, a 23-year-old journalist from Kumasi, set the world record for the longest time spent hugging a tree, completing 24 hours, 21 minutes, and 4 seconds.

The event, held at the Kumasi Cultural Centre from May 22 to 23, 2024, aimed to raise awareness about forest conservation.

Abdul pledged to plant a new tree for each minute of his record, totaling 1,461 trees.

The previous record of 16 hours was held by Ugandan environmental activist Faith Patricia Ariokot.

Abubakar Tahiru

Abubakar Tahiru, a Ghanaian forestry student at Auburn University in Alabama and environmental activist, set a new world record on March 25, 2024, for the most trees hugged in one hour.

The 29-year-old hugged 1,123 trees, averaging nearly 19 per minute. Abubakar’s love for nature and its conservation stemmed from his upbringing in a farming community in Tepa, Ghana.

Roselyn Akosua Mantey

On April 3, 2024, Roselyn Akosua Mantey, a talented makeup artist, made history by breaking the Guinness World Record for the longest marathon applying makeup.

The feat began on Wednesday, April 3, and ended on Sunday, April 7, 2024, after an incredible five days of continuous makeup application.

Before Roselyn’s groundbreaking achievement, the previous record stood at 24 hours.

Jephthah Appiah

Jephthah Osarfo Appiah set the Guinness World Record for the longest video game marathon playing a sports game, completing 100 hours and 7 minutes.

The event took place in Victoria Island, Lagos, Nigeria, from May 1 to 6, 2024. Jephthah’s goal was to inspire the gaming community and encourage African youth to believe in their potential.

André Ayew

Black Stars Captain André Ayew equaled the record for the most appearances in the Africa Cup of Nations, with 36 appearances, a record previously held by Cameroon’s Rigobert Song.

Ayew reached this milestone from January 2008 to January 22, 2024, after playing in eight tournaments, including the 2023 edition.

Felicity Asantewaa

On March 9, 2024, Felicity Asantewaa set the record for the most cars washed in eight hours by an individual, washing 60 cars.

She broke the previous record by washing five more cars.

Chelsea-Abigail Owusu Ansah

Chelsea-Abigail Owusu Ansah earned the Guinness World Record for the most heads of hair locked by an individual in eight hours, locking 27 heads on March 6, 2024.

Chelsea’s dedication to her craft has made hair-locking her profession.

Evans Aryee

Belgium-based Ghanaian strength athlete, Evans Aryee, nicknamed 'Hulk,' set a new Guinness World Record for the fastest 400kg incline frame carry over 10 meters.

The event took place on January 26, 2024, in Milan, Italy, where he completed the task in just 8.07 seconds.

Evans is also the all-time Belgian deadlift record holder.
