With less than 24 hours left in 2024, many Ghanaians are reflecting on the past year and looking forward to 2025 with renewed optimism.
GhanaWeb took to the streets on Monday, December 30, 2024, to capture the public's mood and hear their expectations for themselves, their communities, and the nation in the coming year.
One individual expressed entering the new year with renewed hope and a positive attitude.
"I had a lot of expectations in 2024, but since I have not been able to achieve all of them, I am working very hard to achieve at least 95 percent of them in 2025. I have a child, and I don’t want to leave a legacy of poverty. I have to work hard and make ends meet.
"I am also expecting the incoming President to tackle the inflation rate, and I hope that all my dreams will come true in 2025," she shared.
Many expressed hope that the government would address pressing challenges, such as unemployment and economic recovery.
"We, the street boys, are suffering because we often don’t have money to take care of ourselves. So, in 2025, we want the government to help us so that we can take care of ourselves. Personally, I don’t have a job, so if the government could get a job for me, it would be much better," one individual noted.
Others shared their personal aspirations, expressing determination to achieve great milestones in 2025.
"We expect goodwill. We want a lot of things to change—the dollar, prices should come down, and there should be jobs for the youth. That is what I am expecting: an improved life, happiness, freedom, and security. God should take control," another remarked.
Another individual said, "I am pleading with the incoming government. I am part of the party. When they come into power, they should make things easier for us. I am an okada rider, but next year, I expect to be driving. I can’t continue to be an okada rider.
"I am expecting certain changes in my life. Personally, it’s not easy for me. But I know that when things improve for me, they will also improve for others. I have other people in mind whom I am willing to help if I have the means."
