In what is likely to go down as one of the biggest cases in Ghana’ family court, wife of Black Stars skipper Asamoah Gyan, Gifty Gyan has settled on top Ghanaian law firm Kulendi & Associates to battle her husband in court, MyNewsGh.com has learnt.
The firm, headed by the respected Lawyer Yoni Kulendi is expected to represent her in court in the legal battle. Already, the firm instituted actions at the East Legon Police Station to help their client retrieve her passport and other documents which were seized by the elder brother of her husband.
MyNewsGh.com has also learnt that the Gyan family lawyer, Kissi Agyebeng who is also lawyer for Anas Aremeyaw Anas declined to handle the court case of Asamoah Gyan against his wife of 5 years, and fiancée of 11 years. The reasons for the lawyer’s decision is not known.
This has forced the Gyans to hire the services of a former Graphic Communications Group employee now turned lawyer based in Tema, one Edwin Kusi-Appiah to represent the Black Stars skipper in court.
Readers will recall lawyer Kissi Agyebeng is the one handled the case of Asamoah Gyan’s alleged sodomy of Sarah Kwablah against Maurice Ampaw. He is also the lawyer who handled the alleged assault by Baffour Gyan of Graphic Reporter Daniel Kenu in Kumasi. He is also a key transaction advisor of the Gyan business empire and contracts.
He has however refused to take on the case of Asamoah Gyan’s marriage.
In what many say is a court case to shield his numerous properties, Asamoah Gyan’s new lawyers have already started work, clarifying that the court case against Gifty Gyan who met Gyan in 2002 when he was with Liberty Professionals, cohabited and married in 2013 is not a divorce proceeding, but annulment.
“There are two ways to legally end a marriage – annulment and divorce. An annulment is a legal procedure which cancels a marriage between a man and a woman. Annulling a marriage is as though it is completely erased – legally, it declares that the marriage never technically existed and was never valid. A divorce, or legal dissolution of a marriage, is the ending of a valid marriage between a man and a woman returning both parties to single status with the ability to remarry.”
While every single reportage about the developments around the marriage and court proceedings is factually accurate- including Mr Baffour Gyan requesting for DNA test on his brother’s behalf, his seizure of passports- Mr Gyan’s lawyers sought to suggest otherwise.
MyNewsGh.com learnt Nina Atalah is reportedly unhappy with how she has been characterized in the media in the wake of her relationship with Asamoah Gyan, asking that she be protected.
This among many other reasons led his lawyers to warn:
“Our client has noted the level of misinformation as well as the veiled and sometimes open attempt to discredit him, his family and or his friends and therefore we write for and on behalf of Mr Asamoah Gyan on matters that have come to his attention because they have been largely publicised and talked about within the media space across the country.”
MyNewsGh.com will continue to report the facts of the case as it unfolds.
