The Ministry of Health (MoH) has presented a cheque of Ghc 300,000 and procured a GHc 100,000 worth of medications to the Accra Psychiatric Hospital.

This is to help alleviate the plight of patients and workers in the health facility. Managers of the hospital on Tuesday began discharging patients from the facility as they struggle to take care of them.

The hospital explained that it took the drastic decision after nurses at the facility decided to stay away from work until government provides them with basic supplies.

According to a statement from the Ministry, it has also “donated some tuna fishes. The Hospital has some stocks of non-consumable items including treatment gloves which can last till May, 2017.”

“We hope that, that dedicated source of funding identified by government to supporting the Mental Health Fund in the Act will help resolve this long standing financial challenge in the psychiatric front.

“We wish to use this opportunity to thank the media, the public and Civil Society Organizations for support,” the PR outfit of the Ministry said.

The Hospital needs a whopping GHS700, 000 monthly to run.
