National Democratic Congress (NDC) National Women’s Organiser has descended heavily on President Nana Akufo-Addo for “ignoring” the victims of an accident on the Techiman- Kintampo highway, last Friday.
Dr Bissiw is particularly surprised that the President had time to join people of the Tumu Traditional area to celebrate the Paare-gbielle Festival, but could not show compassion for families of 39 charred bodies buried in mass grave last Saturday.
Dr Hanna Louisa Bissiw who was speaking on Inside Politics on Monday argued that “president Nana Akufo-Addo is not compassionate because he went to Upper West after the accident and could not even pass by Kintampo to visit the victims of the accident that killed many.”
According to the NDC Women’s Organizer, close to 90 lives lost through accidents over the weekend particularly the Kintampo incident in which 39 passengers burnt alive is a national disaster and the least any President could do if abroad is to return home but Ghana’s President as she put it, is on a pleasure trip.
Nana Addo’s visit is at the invitation of Maltese President, Her Excellency Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca, who was one of the first foreign leaders to pay an official visit to Ghana, under the Akufo-Addo government, on 26th July, 2017.
The reciprocal visit is aimed at deepening and strengthening the ties that exist between the two countries, as well as exploring other areas of co-operation for their mutual benefit.
Whilst in Malta, President Akufo-Addo will address the Ghana-Malta Business Forum, which is being held to drive Maltese investments into Ghana. Already Maltese companies have investments in Ghana to the tune of $19 million
But Hanna Bissiw believes the president could have found sometime to attend to the accident victims.
“We have an insensitive person as our leader in this country. An accident occurs on Friday morning, people have lost their wives, others have lost husbands and siblings in this gory accident and our president has failed to visit the casualties. That’s very bad and we hear he has even travelled outside the country,” Mrs Bissiw bemoaned, saying “If John Mahama were the president, he would not have done this.”
The former deputy Agriculture Minister was reacting to the gory head-on collision that killed that killed over 60 passengers at Amoma Nkwanta near Jema in the Bono East Region.
Dozens of the other passengers who did not burn but had varied degrees of injuries had been admitted at the Holy family Hospital, Techiman; the Jema Government Hospital, the Kintampo Municipal Hospital, Kintampo and the Wenchi Hospital shortly after the bloody crash.
The burnt persons were on board the two buses that collided head-on in the early hours of Friday March 22, 2019.
Reports have it that a VVIP Kia bus with registration number GT 3915- 17 was heading southward from Garu in the Upper East Region when it collided with a Grandbird bus with registration number GT 5694-18 which was heading to Bolgantaga in the Upper East Region from Accra.
It is unclear what might have caused the collision but it is speculated that one of the drivers might have been dozing off and ran into the lane of the other from the opposite direction.
Eye witnesses say they believe all passengers onboard the Kumasi bound bus burnt beyond recognition after the vehicle went up in flames after the crash.
