How Akufo-Addo honoured Angela Merkel

President Akufo-Addo popped up in public yesterday wearing a nicely designed local print (fabric) which caught the attention of many.

Many were those who admired it from a distance, with some asking for the fabric’s name.

Late checks by DAILY GUIDE established that the fine pink, black and gold coloured fabric with broom-like designs was produced in Ghana by GTP specifically for the German Chancellor, Angela Merkel’s visit to the country yesterday.

To that end, they decided to name the fabric ‘Merkel fata Ghana’, simply translated as ‘Merkel befits Ghana’, just like a similar hand-woven Kente cloth which was named after Ghana’s late former First Lady and wife of Dr Kwame Nkrumah, which was called ‘Fatia fata Nkrumah’.

President Akufo-Addo, subsequently, presented different shades of the local print to his guest as a gift.

He capped it with another Kente cloth by name ‘3dwene se dweneso’ and rich locally made beads to match.

An obviously stunned Merkel stared in awe as she admired the beauty of the fabric and the set of gifts, expressing tons of appreciation to President Akufo-Addo and manufacturers of the cloth and the government and people of Ghana for the honour done her.
