The National Communication Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Sammy Gyamfi, accused Dennis Miracles Aboagye of deceiving Ghanaians about his claim that the NDC copied Dr. Bawumia’s free tertiary education for Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) policy.

Dennis Miracles Aboagye, the communication director of New Patriotic Party Flagbearer Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, during a panel discussion on JoyNews on Saturday, August 31, 2024, accused the NDC of copying several NPP policies, including the tertiary education promises for Persons with Disabilities.

“From the get-go, we mentioned that we’re going to ensure that every single Person with Disability in this country would go to tertiary education for free.

“Until Dr Mahmoud Bawumia spoke about persons with disabilities in this election, during the regional tour, did you ever hear John Mahama speak publicly within this election period? Don’t forget already there’s a pilot rollout of the free tertiary education for persons with disabilities,” he said.

Reacting to this, Sammy Gyamfi, the co-panellist on the programme, said the NDC could not have copied the free tertiary education for PWDs from the NPP because it was part of its manifesto for the 2020 election.

“He says we have stolen their manifesto promises – he said in some cases, we lifted promises from their manifesto. And you challenge him to give you just one example. I am demonstrating to you that he is a liar,” he said.

The NDC National Communication Officer then went on to read out the page number and details of the promise from the NDC’s 2020 manifesto.

“The promise to make tertiary education free for all Persons with Disability was contained in the 2020 manifesto of the NDC. He doesn’t know. I’ll prove it to him. Anybody watching me google NDC 2020 people’s manifesto. Check page 74, item t. The paragraph is 7.26, tertiary education. And it says the next NDC government will provide free tertiary education for persons with disability. So, why would you come and sit here and lie that we’ve stolen your promise or your policy when it was contained in our 2020 manifesto? At the time, Bawumia was not even contesting for president.”
