Former President John Dramani Mahama has denied claims that his government gave a diplomatic passport to the embattled CEO of Menzgold Ghana Limited, Nana Appiah Mensah, popularly known as NAM1.
He said if NAM1 holds a diplomatic passport, then the Akufo-Addo government is to be held responsible for that.
Addressing delegates of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) at Koforidua in the New Juaben South Constituency of the Eastern Region on Thursday, 18 January 2019, Mr. Mahama said the NPP is always peddling falsehood about him.
“They are saying that I have given a diplomatic passport, but they know very well that the accusations are all false. We [NDC] have never given him [NAM1] a diplomatic passport. If he has one, then it is the NPP administration which gave him the passport,” he said.
Mr. Mahama noted that the NPP, prior to the 2016 general elections, lied that he had sold Eredec Hotel to his brother, and owned a hotel in Dubai, among many other fabricated stories.
He said, the NPP is now in government with all the state machinery under its control and should be able to tell Ghanaians the truth in those claims.
Mr. Mahama, who is campaigning to become the flag bearer of the NDC ahead of the 2020 elections, also denied claims that he invested a huge amount of money with Menzgold.
