The Pro Vice-Chancellor of the University, Professor Nana Aba Appiah Amfo, was on Radio Univers this morning to address issues concerning the UG Online Teaching and Learning.

In case you missed it here is a summary of all that was discussed.

Students are encouraged to use E-learning services. Management is still in talks for the opportunity to be given to students who have peculiar and genuine reasons for not using the e-Learning process.

The first week from 30th March is to be used for the trial. And management is calling on lecturers to use continuous assessment and try as much to not to use bulk assessment.

Continuous assessment is where you’re not assessed on a one-time quiz or assignment, like exams but on a series of quizzes and assignments that’ll be added up to make up your grade.

On Continuous Assessment, look out for notices from the unit level, especially your departments on how they’ll assess students.

Lecturers are pleaded with to not use the E-learning platform for IAs and Exams but give assignments instead. Your department is to decide whether you will write exams on Sakai or not.

Various schools are to send out notices to students on implementation of courses and how to go about using the e-learning platform, especially for College of Basic and Applied Sciences.

The Pro Vice-Chancellor says there’s no option than to use the e-learning. There are potential challenges but we should look at the possibilities as the rest of the semester’s work is to be done online.

Live sessions with lecturers will be conducted after the trial week. Also, virtual centres will be put up on websites to address challenges online.

Also, there will be no refund of academic nor residential fees.

You don’t need to go for a new sim card if you already have a Vodafone sim and if you’re not allowed to go out and can’t bear the costs, you can use any other sim.

The Sakai platform is not only accessible via Vodafone but all other networks. Just that Vodafone is giving free data because they agreed to.

We will update you as soon as we have more information. Stay tuned.
