Former Ghanaian Ambassador to the United States of America, Daniel Ohene Agyekum has said President Nana Akufo-Addo’s nonperformance will make him a one-term president.
He said despite running for the presidency for 3 consecutive times, President Akufo-Addo’s governance style looks like he never prepared for the highest office of the land.
He told Inside Politics host Mugabe Maase on Power 97.9 FM Wednesday afternoon, the failure of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government to deliver the chain of promises they gave Ghanaians prior to the 2016 general elections has exposed them (NPP government) as incompetent.
“Akufo-Addo will become a one-term president...He has failed woefully because he’s not been able to do what he promised us,” the former Ashanti Regional Minister predicted.
He said the erstwhile Mills/Mahama administration worked in the interest of Ghanaians through capital intensive projects that enhanced the development of the country, unlike the failed Akufo-Addo government.
“Prior to the 2016 elections, I didn’t get the chance to visit all the constituencies in the country, but when I became the campaign manager for John Mahama I visited over 270 constituencies…In my own cocoa sector, I realized all the cocoa roads in the 6 cocoa growing regions[that the previous government had commenced] had been abandoned [by the Akufo-Addo government] and people were not happy about it,” the former COCOBOB chairman said.
He said the people are disappointed in the government because ” they were promised factories in every district and became happy but it all turned out to be lies.”
“I am certain John Mahama will win the elections,” he added. “When I visited all the constituencies as a campaign manager [for John Mahama] everyone, not only the party members or executives, was happy to hear John Mahama was coming back [to lead NDC],” he disclosed.
To him, Ghanaians are not enthused with the performance of the NPP government. He also stressed that the Akufo-Addo administration was dabbling in cronyism and corruption contrary to what they (NPP) promised.
He said among other things most of the NPP policies were not well planned before rolling them out, therefore, they are not benefitting Ghanaians as envisaged.
Mr. Agyekum believes if elections were held today, former president John Mahama who is the NDC flagbearer for the 2020 elections would win only if the elections are tampered with.
He alleged that because the NPP government had seen a defeat beckoning them in 2020 is why it has engaged the Electoral Commission (EC) to do it’s bidding and prevent some new eligible voters from registering in the ongoing limited voters' registration in the country.
He said the EC deliberately refused to resort to registering new voters via an online platform as all the political parties agreed on just to give way to NPP members to register with the EC to favour the NPP in the 2020 elections.
