The member of Parliament (MP) for Assin Central, Kennedy Agyapong, has stated that he knows the reason why some police officers have lost their lives in recent times.

According to the popular lawmaker, some criminals connive with senior police officers to kill some officers in the junior ranks.

This, according to a report by MyNewsGH, is also due to the inability of the senior officers to mentors the younger officers.

He further revealed that some bad nuts in the Police Service are conniving with criminals who have taken the country hostage.

In that respect, he says, such lawbreakers are immediately released as soon as they are arrested.

Sharing his views on Adom FM, Kennedy Agyapong went on to say that some lawbreakers in uniform had infiltrated the senior ranks of the police service.

Seriously I don’t trust the police service especially the senior officers. They are bogus. I have evidence to show that most of the criminals in this country are working hand in hand with senior police officers”, he stated.

The situation, he maintained, is gradually creating tension between the junior and senior ranks.

The Finder newspaper is reported to have revealed that from the year 2013 till date, 48 police officers have lost their lives in the course of discharging their duties.

15 out of the 48, it was revealed, were killed by armed robbers and unidentified gunmen. The affected officers died under several circumstances, including during exchange of fire with armed robbers, motor accidents, stabbing, being run over by vehicles, and police crossfire.

Inspector Emmanuel Ashilevi who is the latest victim was killed on Sunday, January 21, 2018, when armed men, numbering about six, attacked the Kwabenya Police Station at dawn and forcibly freed seven prisoners.
