Chairman of the New Patriotic Party in the Northern Region, Daniel Bugri Naabu, has descended heavily on Kofi Adams, describing him as a ‘useless drunkard’ for claiming that the bribery allegation against President John Mahama is a lie.
The NPP on Tuesday alleged at a news conference in Accra that President Mahama and his brother, Ibrahim Mahama, attempted to bribe Mr Bugri Naabu to resign from the NPP and damage Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo “beyond electability”.
According to the party, Mr Bugri Naabu was handed cash of GHC500,000 at a meeting with the President and his brother, Ibrahim Mahama on October 28, 2016, and was promised additional GHC3.3 million, a V6 Mitsubishi vehicle and a brand new V8 Land cruiser.
The Mitsibushi was given him on November 2, 2016.
The NDC has since rubbished the allegations, describing it as a cock and bull story intended to cause disaffection for President Mahama who is seeking re-election for a second term.
Mr Adams who is the National Coordinator of President Mahama’s campaign team told an Accra-based Citi FM Tuesday Mr Bugri Naabu’s claim as alleged by the NPP is a cock and bull story.
“Who in his mind collects money he says it’s bribe; and goes and deposit in his account. He didn’t find any police station to take that money that he considers as a bribe. He didn’t find any person to witness that he took the money and was going round and looking for a Prudential bank that works on Saturday to go and deposit the money. This cock and bull stories should be told to only NPP members and not Ghanaians in generality,” he said.
But Mr Bugri on Wednesday evening broke his silence on the matter, and hit back at Mr Kofi Adams who he said is a useless man who only drinks locally brewed gin, popularly known as Akpeteshie, TV3’s Zubaida Ismail reported “I heard useless akpeteshie drunkards like Kofi Adams… He can never get money to buy good drink apart from akpeteshie and smoke 10 times in a day…he’s a useless man. He should get away,” Mr Bugri Naabu told some executives of the All People’s Party at his residence in Tamale in the Northern Region.
He said this when welcomed the APC executives, who have endorsed the candidature of NPP’s presidential candidate, Nana Akufo-Addo for the December 7 presidential election. Mr Bugri Naaba said he would soon address a conference personally on this issue.
