Koforidua to endure water rationing

The Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL)is to ration water supply in Koforidua the Eastern Regional Capital and its environs beginning Monday, May 25, 2020.

The rationing will be for two days intervals.

According to Management of the water production and distribution company, the decision has been necessitated by the overwhelming increase in demand of water since government announced free water package for Ghanaians as part of Covid-19 relief measures.

“The Management of Ghana Water Company Ltd, Eastern Region wishes to inform the general public especially consumers in Koforidua and its environs that effective Monday 25th May 2020, there will be rationing of water supply in the Municipality.

“The rationing is to enable the company serve its customers better. This is as a result of the increase in demand during this period of free water supply".

"The rationing will be for 2 days intervals hence the need to store water and make judicious use of it,” the Public Relations officer of the GWCL in the Eastern Region Kojo Daase said in a statement issued Friday, May 22, 2020.

President Akufo Addo has announced that government will foot the water and some electricity bills of Ghanaians for the months of April, May and June.

In an address to the nation a month ago, the President said no one in Ghana will have his electricity or water disconnected for the next three months for none payment of bills.

“The Ghana Water Company Limited and the Electricity Company of Ghana have been directed to ensure the stable supply of water and electricity during this period. There will be no disconnection of supply.”

These measures announced by President Akufo-Addo aimed at cushioning the public, especially the vulnerable families, from effects of the coronavirus pandemic.
