The Korle-bu Teaching Hospital is currently after a former Chief Administrator of the hospital, Prof. Afia Hesse for taking home a VW Passat saloon car and an amount of GHC 51,000 paid to as retirement package.

According to the 2016 Auditor General’s report, the previous management of the Teaching Hospital awarded a retirement package of GHC 51,000 and a VW Passate saloon car to a former Chief Administrator of the Korle-bu Teaching Hospital, Prof. Afia Hesse without the approval of the Health Minister.

The Auditor General said the practice was in breach of Section 37 (6) of the Ghana Health Service Act on retirement packages.

The CEO of Korle-bu, Dr. Daniel Asare, told the Public Accounts Committee of Parliament (PAC) that Prof. Afia Hesse has since returned the car but has refused to refund the GHC 51,000 since challenging them to go to court to retrieve the money.

Health Minister Kwaku Agyeman Manu on his part said the only option left for his ministry is to seek advice from the AG to recover the monies.
