Superintendent Andrew Anyani, the Asante Akim South Municipal Police Commander, has called on the public to be security conscious and observe any development in their environment.
He said though the Ghana Police Service is mandated to protect lives and properties in the country, the best way for Ghanaians to stay safe was to ensure safety in their own neighbourhoods.
They should report to the police any suspicious character in the communities and be proactive in raising early alarms in looming security breach situations, for their own safety.
Superintendent Anyani was addressing various congregations in the Juaso township, when he joined their watch night services, to usher in year 2020.
Churches visited included; Presbyterian, Roman Catholic, Christ Apostolic, Methodist, Assemblies of God and Pentecost.
The Police, he said, was always ready to protect the citizenry in case of any attack, but it was important for everybody to stay safe.
He used the opportunity to appeal to the people in the municipality to support the Police in ensuring a peaceful election this year by avoiding any form of violence before, during and after the elections.
The District Police Commander urged the clergy to use the pulpit to admonish their members especially the youth to abide by the electoral rules to preserve the peace in the municipality.
The need for a peaceful election in December this year, was re-echoed by all the pastors in the churches visited.
