Hon Lydia Seyram Alhassan, the Member of Parliament for Ayawaso West Wuogon has donated a car and two motor bikes to the University of Ghana.
The Honorable MP extended this gesture as part of measures to help the University of Ghana and the Ghana Police to beef up security to deal with security challenges on campus.
The vice chancellor of the University of Ghana, Prof. Ebenezer Oduro Owusu together with some members of the University authority were present to receive the donation on behalf of the university.
This gesture is timely, and it has come on the back of recent security issues particularly robbery attacks on students.
According to the Hon MP, the donations are to aid in increasing the visibility of security and enhanced security patrols on campus. She intimated to the leadership of the University that she is committed and willing to do everything in her power to augment the efforts of the University in dealing with security challenges on campus.
Hon. Lydia, prior to this recent donation, had already facilitated the presentation of a 1000 streetlights to the university as part of strategy to end the threats on the lives of the students on campus.
The National Youth Organizer of the NPP Henry Nana Boakye who accompanied the member of parliament acknowledged the importance of the University of Ghana as a strategic institution whose security concerns should be the utmost priority of the country.
He also commended the university for its sterling contribution toward the production of quality human capital as well as good leaders for the country. He also assured the leadership of the University of the support and dedication of the NPP government led by H.E. Nana Akufo Addo.
The Vice Chancellor of the University Prof. Ebenezer Oduro Owusu thanked the Member of parliament for her timely intervention and contributions to the efforts of the University. He further acknowledged the contributions of the government towards the university and called for more of such interventions.
The main students' representatives of the University, SRC and GRASAG, led by Isaac Agyeman and Christian Atadika respectively expressed their gratitude to the Member of parliament and her team for coming to their aid and pledged their readiness to work with her for the betterment of the welfare of the students on campus.
