MP supports Madina Health Directorate with medical equipment

The Member of Parliament (MP) for Madina Constituency in the Greater Accra Region has presented some medical equipment worth over seventy thousand Ghana cedis to the Madina Health Directorate to boost healthcare delivery in the La-Nkwatanang municipality.

The medical equipment was made up of twenty beds and mattresses, four delivery beds, an ambulance, a hearse to the Muslim community and some wheelchairs.

Speaking at a short ceremony to present the medical equipment to the health directorate joined by the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of the La-Nkwatanang Municipal Assembly; Jenifer Dede Ajabeng, and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Constituency Chairman for Madina; Eric Nartey Yeboah, Alhaji Abubakar Saddique Boniface said the Madina municipality is one of the fastest growing municipalities in the GAR but lagging behind in terms of some facilities for the development of the electorate.

"Day in day out there is pressure on the few selected healthcare facilities in the municipality due to reason that area also harbours the biggest market in the region", he explained.

According to him, the area receives about fifty thousand visitors on daily basis adding that because of the market, pressure is always brought to bear on the health facilities in the area hence the need to equip the existing ones to enable them to cater for these pressures.

As your MP, I will continue to push that a befitting hospital is built for the area to solve some of these teething problems in the delivery of healthcare in the municipality he added.

"It is my responsibility as MP in collaboration with the Assembly to create the desire for the workers in the health facility to work by providing the needed equipment", he noted.

The MP who also the Minister of State at the Office of the Vice President Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia said the notion that the municipality has no lands for the construction of a modern hospital was not true. He maintained that the chiefs and people have given the assurance that land will be readily be made available to, for the construction of a modern hospital in the area.

He called on Assembly to maximize the existing lands in the municipality to ensure the area gets its share of the national cake. He assured the health workers, chiefs and people that by the middle of August the Madina Constituency will a state-of-the-arts ambulance as part of the One-District-One ambulance project under the Ministry of Special Development Initiatives as part of the president Nana Akufo-Addo’s vision to bring healthcare to the doorsteps of the electorate.

He said this together with the existing ones will enable the smaller health facilities in the municipality transport patients in no time to the referral facilities for assistance.

Earlier in a welcome address, the Director of the Madina Health Directorate, Mrs. Priscilla Anima Siaw enumerated some of the challenges of the La-Nkwantanang Municipal Hospital Kekeli explaining that many expectant mothers like to come and deliver at the facility adding that the facility for deliveries are also few.

According to her, this usually puts some pressures on the hospital during these times especially when there are more delivery cases to attend to.

She minces no words to say that the lack of an ambulance at the facility is a major challenge in the management of the facility over the years.

She assured the MP that the equipment made available to the hospital will be put to the use it was intended for in the municipality
