The Member of Parliament for Bawku Central, Mahama Ayariga, has urged Ghanaians to vote for John Mahama for an economic transformation in the country.

According to him, John Mahama produced the best economic growth in the history of Ghana as chairman of the Economic Management Team in 2010.

Speaking at the National Democratic Congress (NDC) campaign launch on Saturday, July 27, 2024, Ayariga highlighted the contrasting economic records of NDC flagbearer John Dramani Mahama and Dr. Bawumia.

"Mahama produced the best economic growth as Chairman of the Economic Management Team in 2010, not in the history of Ghana, but the whole world," Ayariga asserted.

He criticised Dr. Bawumia for his role as the leader of the government's Economic Management Team, accusing him of driving the country to the brink of collapse.

Ayariga noted that under Dr. Bawumia's leadership, Ghana has faced severe economic challenges, including the collapse of the banking sector and increased national debt.

"Under his leadership, this country has suffered a near economic collapse, our banking sector has collapsed, our finances have collapsed, we have become one of the indebted countries and corruption has become rife," Ayariga stated.

He further emphasised the choice facing voters in the upcoming election, presenting Mahama as the candidate with a proven track record of economic success.

"The challenge that confronts us as a people of the North is to make a choice between these two people [Bawumia, Mahama]. One that has a track record of collapsing our economy and finances, and the one that has a track record of delivering the best economy that this country has ever experienced. Who will we vote for? John Dramani Mahama."

The campaign launch saw the attendance of key NDC figures, including John Dramani Mahama, his running mate Prof. Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang, National Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, General Secretary Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, and members of the Council of Elders.
