Some members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) at Mamobi, Accra, are up in arms over the clash with some members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) on Sunday, September 13, 2024.

In a viral video sighted by GhanaWeb, one of the NDC members, who was standing in front of a group of well-built men, is heard issuing a strong caution to NPP supporters at Mamobi.

He accused the NPP members, particularly a man he named as Alhaji Aziz, of always attacking NDC supporters.

He said this Alhaji Aziz has on several occasions attacked their members, but each time, the police fail to take action against him.

The man was also particularly angry over the supposed stabbing of an 11-year-old boy, cautioning that they would not sit by for this to happen again.

“NDC ruled Mamobi but we did not see this kind of atrocities. We want to warn Alhaji Aziz. You did the same thing during the registration at the Kotobabi Police Station, you took out a gun in front of police officers and they did nothing to you.

“Also at Kliko, Accra Girls, you made them beat up Zainu and Ronney, again nothing happened. The same thing happened in the area of Wugina. Today, it has happened again… Now, we are putting aside the issue of brotherhood because what you are doing is becoming too much. You stabbed an 11-year-old boy just because he was wearing an NDC shirt,” he said in Hausa.

He added, “The time has come, we have two months to the election, be prepared for anything. We are prepared, waiting for you. This is not going to happen again. It would never happen again… Our leaders, JM, and Asiedu Nketiah, don’t come and tell us we have overreacted.”

About the clash:

There was commotion at Mamobi, a suburb of the nation's capital in Accra, on Sunday as supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) clashed.

According to reports, the supporters of the two parties were from Nima, Mamobi, and Newtown, all Zongo communities in Accra.

Videos of the incident, which have gone viral, showed the supporters of the two parties engaging in physical altercations, exchanging heavy punches.

The clash escalated as gunshots could be heard. One video from the incident captured people running for cover as the gunshots began.

In another video, a man wearing an NDC T-shirt, allegedly hit on the leg by a bullet, was seen lying on the floor.

"The NPP members have shot an NDC man," a boy is heard saying in Twi as he is questioned by a woman.

The video also depicted NDC supporters rushing the injured man to the hospital.

Another image from the incident showed a man with what appeared to be a bullet wound to his back.

Arrest of a suspect:

The Ghana Police Service has declared a man who was captured in a video footage holding a weapon during disturbances between supporters of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) at Mamobi in Accra wanted.

We urge members of the public to support us with credible information as we continue our intelligence-led operation to apprehend him and other perpetrators, so they can face justice," a brief statement issued by the Police Service said.
