The Ministry of Health has indicated that it will on Wednesday, 14th November, 2018 meet with aggrieved mortuary workers over their intended strike.
Mortuary workers in the country have threatened to embark on a strike effective Tuesday, November 20, 2018, over what they described as illegalities being perpetrated against members by the Ministry of Health and its agencies.
This the Association said has affected their motivation for work.
They contended they’re overworked and not paid for their overtime services.
According to them, most of its workers were employed as casual workers, and their jobs are not guaranteed.
However, confirming the said meeting to Kasapa News, Spokesperson for the Ministry, Elorm Ametepe said “For now we have agreed to meet them on Wednesday that is 14th of November, to discuss the issues that were raised in the letters they wrote to us”.
He however stated that the ministry is concerned about the issues raised by the workers with regards to their working conditions.
“We will meet them to discuss the issues. Concerning salaries, the ministry alone cannot handle that, the mandated institution that has to handle salaries is the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission. So with issues like this, they also have to be invited and also sit in and have discussions with them” he added.
