NDC has reached out to me but unserious NPP has not - A Plus hints on 9th Parliament caucus

The Member of Parliament-elect for Gomoa Central, Kwame Asare Obeng, alias A Plus, has stated that he has already received a call from the National Democratic Congress to join their caucus in the 9th Parliament of Ghana’s Fourth Republic.

Describing the New Patriotic Party (NPP) as an unserious party, A Plus said he has yet to receive any such call from them.

“They have [called me]. I am very happy with the NDC; they have called me,” he stated in an interview on Asempa FM monitored by GhanaWeb.

While emphasizing that he is yet to make a decision, A Plus, who contested the election as an independent candidate, said the interest of his constituents will be paramount in his final decision.

“It will be for my people. If they are going to help my people, I am also going to help them. All that I want is for my people to prosper,” he said.

On whether the NPP has also reached out to him, A Plus responded in the negative.

“They are unserious… No, they have not reached out. But then again, who amongst them will call? The people are currently dazed; who is going to make that call? They refused to listen to our advice. Just as we are telling the NDC now, we advised the NPP, and they didn’t listen. As someone capable of winning a seat as an independent candidate, you should know that I have some sense in politics. You failed to listen to my advice; now look at the disgrace you have brought on yourself. Is this the party that was founded by J.A. Kufuor and J.H. Mensah? But it’s all good. At least lessons will be learned,” he stated in reference to the defeat suffered by the New Patriotic Party in the general election.

In the 2024 presidential race, former President Mahama, who was the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress, won the race according to the results declared by the Electoral Commission. He beat 12 other candidates with 56.55% of the total valid votes.

His closest contender, Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia of the ruling New Patriotic Party, obtained 41.61% of the total valid votes cast.
