During the NPP manifesto launch, the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, outlined key factors he envisions for governing the country if given the mandate in December.
According to Dr. Bawumia, the policies, if implemented, will ensure effective governance.
As part of his bold solutions initiative, Dr. Bawumia unveiled several policies, including capping the number of ministers at 50, to enhance good governance.
Additionally, Dr. Bawumia stated that his next administration will provide living allowances to Paramount Chiefs, Divisional Chiefs, and Queen mothers, and will institute laws to empower chiefs to help strengthen local governance.
Other policies for the effective implementation of good governance include:
a. Capping the number of ministers at 50
b. Reinitiating the process of getting MMDCEs elected through universal adult suffrage, to deepen decentralisation and effective local governance
c. Delinking the creation of Districts from Constituencies to end the automatic increases in the size of Parliament
d. Instituting an Electoral Area Share of the Common Fund (EASCF) for Assembly Members to facilitate development at the Electoral Area level
e. Engaging Parliament and other stakeholders, including Political parties, to review the 1992 constitution to achieve effective national development
f. Providing values-based leadership, predicated on values such as selflessness, excellence, ethics, justice, integrity, transparency, diligence, and accountability
g. In pursuit of Values-Based Leadership and responsible Citizenship, formalise the relationship between the State, Chiefs, FBOs, and CSOs, and redefine and elevate their place and role in the national governance structure
h. Review Section 63 of the Chieftaincy Act to empower Chiefs to strengthen local governance
i. Pay living allowances to Paramount Chiefs, Divisional Chiefs, and Queen mothers
j. To encourage the registration of lands, all stool lands will be registered without initial fee payment. Payment will only be due when the land is sold, and
k. Protect Ghanaian cultural and family values
