The General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia, says the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) have created a noose around their own necks after comparing the outcome of Nigeria’s 2015 elections to what would happen in Ghana.

He says the situation is like staking of a wrong bet, by the opposition party. Mr Asiedu Nketia explained his metaphor by saying the NPP rode very high on the loss of Goodluck Ebele Jonathan in the 2015 Nigeria elections and compared the victory by General Muhammadu Buhari as a good omen for flagbearer Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

Addressing supporters and sympathizers of the NDC at Adentan during the campaign launch of parliamentary candidate Mohammed Ramadan on Sunday, Mr Asiedu Nketia said the NPP compared the power crisis in Ghana to Nigeria’s Boko Haram, perceived as reason for Jonathan’s loss.

He continued that the NPP were of the firm belief that Ghanaians will vote out the NDC and President John Mahama if dumsor persisted. “Where is the dumsor now?” he asked. “Why are they even campaigning since they made dumsor their main campaign weapon?”

Speaking in Twi, the chairman of NDC’s 2016 campaign committee said ‘even Gen. Buhari that they compared Nana Akufo-Addo to has his government in deep straits. If someone knows Mrs Rebecca Akufo-Addo, go and tell her to go to Buhari’s wife for advice”.

He said by now Mrs Akufo-Addo should be advising her husband out of politics because “now he is weak and cannot govern like President John Mahama”.

Mr Asiedu Nketia’s assertion derives from the recent rant between President Buhari and his wife, Aisha, over his presidency. “Did you hear what happened recently?” Asiedu Nketia, popularly known as General Mosquito, asked the crowd. “His wife says it was a mistake for him to run for president in the first place.

”The former Member of Parliament said Adentan constituents, and by extension Ghanaians, will be better off giving NDC a four-year extension. According to him, the NDC is the only party that cannot fail the test of tribalism. “NDC is the only national party giving opportunity to every Ghanaian no matter where you come from.”
