The Eastern Region must not vote for the main opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) in this year’s elections because the Danquah-Busia-Dombo family and the Kufuor administration neglected that part of the country during their two four-year terms in government from 2000 to 2008, President John Mahama has told residents of the area.
According to Mr Mahama, the government of Mr Kufuor starved the region of hospitals, schools and utilities despite being beneficiaries of their electoral largesse.
Mr Mahama, who is seeking a second and final four-year term of office told party supporters at a rally at Asokore in the New Juaben North Constituency that for failing to show loyalty to the region, the NPP does not deserve their region’s vote and support any longer.
According to him, nurses, teachers and other professionals currently lack employment in the region because the Kufuor administration failed to invest in social infrastructure in that part of the country.
Flag bearer of the NPP, Nana Akufo-Addo is a native of the region. He was MP for Abuakwa North for 12 years before deciding to have a go at the presidency. Mr Mahama and the NDC have, on several occasions, accused Mr Akufo-Addo of failing to develop his own constituency during all the years that he served as his constituents’ representative in parliament.
