The National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS) has welcomed the directive by the Electoral Commission to extend applications for transfer of votes to 25 public universities from July 3 to July 5, 2024.

Speaking on the new development, the President of NUGS, Daniel Oppong Kyeremeh, commended the Jean Mensah-led EC for accepting their proposed request.

A statement by NUGS, signed by the president, Daniel Oppong Kyeremeh, and issued by the Press Secretary, Kwasi Adjei Worae, explained that an earlier proposal for the Electoral Commission to establish centres for the transfer of votes in 25 tertiary institutions had been made.

The new development, according to Kyeremeh, will enable students to exercise their voting rights during the pending general elections, which coincides with students’ resumption back on campus.

Kyeremeh therefore urged eligible Ghanaian student voters to visit the voter transfer centers on their various campuses by presenting their ID cards for verification, activating their desire to vote on their preferred campus.

He further cautioned students against the transfer of their votes from campus to other constituencies, as such decisions will not be allowed.
