Director in-charge of Education, Research and Training at Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) of the Ghana Police Service, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Alexander Obeng, has vowed to ensure that motorists obey road regulations to the letter.
He said the MTTD with the support of the traffic enforcement taskforce team intensify vigilance on the road to ensure compliance and sanction those who violate the laws.
His comments come on the back of Sunday’s grisly accident where two huge rocks on top of a truck fell on a BMW, crushing two occupants on the spot.
The truck was said to be negotiating a curve when the rocks tumbled down onto the BMW killing the two.
It took police officials several hours to rescue a third person who was rushed to the Tema General Hospital.
“This should never happen again, never again. We will intensify our vigilance on the road and anybody who is found to have fallen short of the traffic regulations will be dealt with accordingly,” DSP Obeng said.
Speaking to the media, he called on commercial vehicle owners not to only think of what they will get at the end of the day but insist that their drivers comply with traffic regulations.
He said the police would be swift in arresting and arraigning drivers found to be endangering lives of other road users.
