The first thing that comes to mind when the name; Tetteh Quarshie emerges is Cocoa.
Indeed, there have been several stories about this legend, well including the fact that he wasn’t the first person to bring Cocoa into Ghana.
That may be true, but bravery was what he exercised when he hid cocoa during his journey from a mission in Fernando Po (now Equatorial Guinea), knowing what was at stake, and brought cocoa back to Ghana.
Born in 1842, to a farmer from Teshie; Mlekuboi and mother; Ashong-Fio, Tetteh Quarshie, changed Ghana’s fate at age 34, when he introduced the ‘magic beans’ into the country.
