Police hunt for NAM1’s wife

The Criminal Investigations Department of the Ghana Police Service are on the hunt for wife of Nana Appiah Mensah aka NAM1, who is said to be on the run.

Prosecutors told the Accra Circuit today that the wife, Rose Tetteh and Benedicta Appiah, sister of NAM1 are facing four counts, including defrauding by false pretence alongside the embattled businessman.

The court acquiesced to demands by the police and remanded Nana Appiah Mensah into custody to reappear on July 26th. This will allow police to carry investigations into the Menzgold saga.

NAM1 is accused of allegedly defrauding 16,000 customers of more than GH¢1.68 billion between January 2017 and September 2018.

He has been charged with two counts of abetment to defraud by false pretence and two counts of abetment to carry out banking business without a licence, contrary to Section 6 (1) of the Banks and Specialised Deposit-taking Institutions Act, 2016 (Act 930)

Also facing the law are his sister and his wife, Benedicta Appiah and Rose Tetteh, respectively. Police investigators charged them with two counts of abetment to defraud by false pretence and two counts of abetment to carry out banking business without a licence, contrary to Section 6 (1) of Act 930.

NAM1’s two other companies- Brew Marketing Consult and Menzgold Ghana Limited also got some charges slapped on them including defrauding by false pretence, contrary to sections 20 (1) and 13 (1) of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29).

The two companies have also been charged with carrying out a deposit-taking business without a licence, contrary to Section 6 (1) of Act 930.

During the heat of the Menzgold saga, NAM1’s wife was said to have quickly disposed of some assets of his husband and fled to an unknown destination. Some alleged that she was hiding in South Africa.
