Police investigating cause of accident that killed 39-year-old man in Ellembelle

A gory accident on the Edwakpole-Elubo road in the Western Region has taken the life of one person.

According to the eyewitness who spoke to GhanaWeb, the Nissan Note private car driver veered off his lane hence leading to the crash.

Confirming the incident to GhanaWeb's Western Regional Correspondent, the Ellembelle District Police Commander, Superintendent of Police (SOP), Thomas Bayor said on Sunday, February 11, 2018 at 1:00am, the Articulator trailer with Registration number CR 2283-C loaded with cements was travelling from Takoradi to Elubo and the unregistered Nissan Note private car travelling from Elubo direction to Takoradi.

The Police Commander said, on reaching Edwakpole, a town in the Ellembelle District, the two vehicles collided head-on and the Articulator trailer pulled the Nissan Note private car some few meters away.

He added, in the process, the Nissan Note private car was mangled beyond repair and the driver, Mr. Mahama died on the spot and the body was entangled in the vehicle which took four hours before the charred body could be removed from the car.

He disclosed to GhanaWeb that the body of the deceased driver has since been deposited at the Axim Government Hospital morgue for post-mortem.

The surviving driver, Daniel Tabi Jnr. 29, a native of Nakwa Ekumfi in the Central Region whose condition is normal, is in the hands of the Police at Esiama Police Station assisting investigations.

Mr. Bayor rubbished rumours going round the District that the Nissan Note private car driver was drunk which led to the clash that took his life.

Checks conducted by GhanaWeb revealed that the deceased driver is a native of Alla-Bokazo in the Ellembelle District and a senior Electrician of Maha Beach Resort at Atuabo.

Per the customs of the Muslims, the deceased driver, Mr. Zakaria Mahama is expected to be buried early without any delay.
