Ghana's security is of major concern to all citizens and so it becomes frightening when security forces who are to safeguard the citizenry become target for criminals.

On Sunday, seven suspected armed robbers comprising six Ghanaians and a Nigerian trooped into the Kwabenya District Police Headquarters gunning down a Police Officer to free their colleagues in the cell.

The nation's security has since become a topical discussion and Peace FM's 'Kokrokoo' panelists have waded into the issue.

National Vice Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Samuel Ofosu Ampofo speaking to host Kwami Sefa Kayi advised the Police Service to develop new measures to arrest the situation in Ghana.

According to him, their old ways of fighting crime is gradually being infiltrated by criminals; so they must upgrade to secure themselves and Ghanaians.

Mr. Ofosu Ampofo called on the government to retool the Police Service since they're under-resourced and adequately equip them not to allow the Kwabenya incident to repeat itself in the nation.

“The Police when protecting lives must not lose their lives when they’re protecting innocent lives like me and you”, he said.

NDC Central Regional Chairman, Allotey Jacobs urged the Police to join forces with the Military and form a joint action to curb the situation.

He also noted that there are competent Police Officers within the Service and so they should wake up and clamp down on criminals in the nation.

Mentioning the likes of ASP Rose Atinga-Bio, former Greater Accra Regional Police Commander and the former Ashanti Regional Police Commander COP Kofi Boakye, Allotey Jacobs believed crime, particularly armed robbery, was at a minimal rate due to the methods they adopted and so hoped the current Police administration would also devise strategic measures to arrest perpetrators in the country.

Also touching on the issue, seasoned journalist Kweku Baako expressed similar views, advising the government to fully equip the Police personnel to help protect themselves and the society
