A self-styled preacher, Prophet Kwabena Owusu Agyei has been arrested after he was seen in a viral video threatening President Akufo-Addo and the Electoral Commission chairperson Jean Mensa.

The preacher was arrested by plain cloth security men during a live interview with Accra-based Hot FM Tuesday morning.

During a Church Service on Facebook live on Sunday, the pastor warned the EC boss to stop the compilation of the new register.

He threatened that if the EC goes ahead with the voters’ registration, the Electoral Commissioner will die, adding that Ghana will not allow a small family to dictate to the nation.

“Let me tell them (Akyems) something, on June 4 people were crying let the blood flow, it was only military people whose blood flowed… Today as I hear the let the blood flow, it is the blood of the Akyem Mafia that will flow… I saw Akyem Kyebi palace, I saw it on fire and people were saying let the blood flow,” he said while warning President Akufo-Addo to not open the borders for prospective runaways.

"I'm telling Jean Mensa today... If Jean Mensa thinks she was not born of a woman but came from some other angle, she should go ahead and do the new register. She will die 12 midday. She will die just like that. Nonsense! Idiot! You're an idiot Jean Mensa... Stupid Akufo-Addo girl..." he fumed.

The Electoral Commission (EC) has, however, stated that the decision not to include the existing voter’s Identification Card (ID) in its upcoming registration exercise is because the Supreme Court itself has held that the register is reasonably not credible and that by implication, the cards issued pursuant to it are also reasonably not credible.

Correction: An earlier version of the story had the headline: 'NDC prophet' arrested after threatening to kill EC boss.
The National Democratic Congress has however dissociated itself from the story.
