A former Constituency Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Yagaba-Kubori Constituency, Akamara Bawa, has been arrested by the police for the destruction of some ballot papers during the re-run of the Walewale Parliamentary Primaries.

The former NPP Executive was whisked away by armed policemen after he started tearing some of the sorted ballot papers after voting had ended.

Angry youth at the scene nearly pounced on him, but for the timely intervention of the police who whisked him out of the scene and took the ballot boxes into custody amidst shouts from delegates who had gathered to witness the outcome.

MyNewsGh.com gathered that for fear of being lynched, the police transferred the suspect to Bolgatanga in the Upper East Region while they secured the ballot boxes for the process to be completed.

One of the aspirants and Economic Advisor to the Vice President, Dr. Kabiru Tiah Mahama, has expressed disappointment in the conduct of the suspect, indicating that he had no business around the voting center.

He alleged that the suspect, who was there to champion the cause of his opponent, saw defeat staring them in the face and therefore resorted to such undemocratic ways to subvert the will of the people in the constituency.

“A democratic process was organized, sorting was done, and someone from nowhere, knowing that there was imminent defeat, decided to disrupt the process. We know the person, and I have raised issues about this same person over accreditation this morning.

"The ballot boxes have been secured, they must be counted, and I have absolutely no doubt that the people’s favorite will be declared. The gentleman has no business in this election, and I am told the police have picked him up and he is being sent to Bolga. I pray the law takes its course,” he said.
