First Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Joseph Osei-Owusu has lauded intercity STC for their low involvement in accidents across the country.

Addressing members of parliament, the MP for Bekwai who doubles as the CEO of the Drivers and Vehicle Licencing Authority (DVLA), observed that the spate of accidents which have occurred on the roads have rarely included Intercity STC vehicles; an occurrence he attributed to their adherence to traffic rules.

“…they are trusted for being safe, that is the most attractive part of STC, they are trusted that STC will deliver you to your destination. Of all the reports of accidents that we have heard recently, there is none involving STC buses because, in many instances, they obey the rules.

"For example, the rule is that no driver should drive continuously for more than 4 hours and so on their high/long journeys, they have two drivers….Than the other operator who is using one driver and therefore, prone to accidents,” he revealed.

The First Deputy Speaker of Parliament was making a case for the approval of a tax waiver for the procurement of vehicles for Intercity STC Company Limited after a report presented to the house by the Finance Committee.

The requests were to seek approval for the waiver of taxes amounting to GHC25,144,989.27.

The motion was passed following recommendations from the Finance Committee of Parliament.

The committee’s chairman, Dr. Mark Assibey Yeboah indicated in his statement that “considering the enormous benefits to be derived from all the aforementioned, the committee is of the view that the requests are in the right direction”.
