Market women and other traders returning from Bolga market were on Tuesday evening subjected to severe beatings by a robbery syndicate that operates within the Naaga area in the Kasena-Nankana Municipalilty of the Upper East Region.

The robbers mercilessly beat the traders and made away with monies, a motorbike and other valuables amounting to thousands of cedis.

The traders, according to information, were returning home after a business day in the Bolgatanga market when the armed robbers pounced on their vehicle, hit them with sticks, the butts of their guns and caused damage to the vehicle.

Three other tricycles popularly called "motor kings" were also damaged after occupants failed to produce money.

One of the victims who pleaded anonymity gave an account that the robbers first stopped a "207 Benz bus" and used it to block passage on the road, giving them avenue to rob other road users.

He indicated that the robbers made them lie prostrate, while they ransacked their pockets, vehicles and belongings.

"We were coming back from Bolgatanga on Tuesday around 7 pm when the robbers stopped us along the Bolgatanga to Naaga road. Our driver resisted and it infuriated them to shoot at our vehicle. When we finally stopped, we realized another 207 Benz bus was in front of us. It had been stopped too. They made us to get down, put our faces on the ground and searched through our goods. They stole our monies, took away a Honda motorbike and even destroyed motorkings. It was very horrifying incident". The victim narrated.

The victim said the police was called but before help came the robbers had bolted into the bushes.

The police later searched the community for the bolted robbers but no arrest were made.
