The Rotaract Clubs of Accra-Labone and Tema-Meridian have donated waste bins to Labone Senior High School (SHS) and St. Thomas Aquinas Senior High School (SHS) under one of its annual flagship projects, Tour Du Labone.
The two community clubs made the presentation last Friday on the National Volunteers’ Day to help keep the school compounds clean.
Presenting the bins to Labone Senior High School, President of the Rotaract Club of Accra-Labone, Albert Amekudzi explained that donation was part of the two clubs’ initiative to keep communities clean under Rotary’s water and sanitation area of focus.
Mr. Amekudzi stated, “Our aim is to support our various communities in the best possible way we can and with the growing student population, it is important to also take steps to keep your environment clean.
“The donation of this waste bin is to help the school and the younger generation stay healthy with a clean environment.”
Receiving the dustbins at Labone SHS, Assistant Headmaster, Mr. Peter Djan thanked the two clubs for their donation and noted that the bins will be used for their rightful purpose.
He added that “they have come at the right time because the school population is growing and we will be faced with sanitation issues as well, so this will help us keep our compound clean.”
President of Rotaract Club of Tema-Meridian, Priscilla Flavia Tenkorang in a brief remark at St. Thomas Aquinas indicated that “We are delighted to donate these dustbins to the school as part of Rotaract Clubs of Tema-Meridian and Accra-Labone effort to clean up the city and support the sanitation agenda of the country.”

Tour Du Labone is an annual event of Rotaract Club of Accra-Labone where Rotaractors and Rotarians ride bicycles from Aviation Social Center through Cantonments to Labone and other parts of the city to embark on a project.
This year, the club, partnered with the Rotaract Club of Tema-Meridian to donate dustbins to selected schools within Labone community under Rotary’s Water and Sanitation Focus Area.
Rotaract clubs bring together people ages 18-30 to exchange ideas with leaders in the community, develop leadership and professional skills, and have fun through service. In communities worldwide, Rotary and Rotaract members work side by side to take action through service.
From big cities to rural villages, Rotaract is changing communities like yours. Rotaract clubs decide how to organize and run their club, manage their own funds, and plan and carry out activities and service projects aligned with causes that are important to your community.
