As the nation mourns the passing of Akua Donkor, the presidential candidate and leader of the Ghana Freedom Party, many are sharing their fond memories of her.

One memorable aspect of Akua Donkor was her bold promises to Ghanaians if elected president.

Some of these promises were controversial and sparked significant online discourse.

Here are six of Akua Donkor’s policies that created a buzz on the internet:

1. Free Cutlasses for Farmers:

Akua Donkor's policies often favoured farmers. She promised to provide essential funding, establish a pension scheme for farmers, and, most controversially, distribute free cutlasses to them.

2. Local Languages in Parliament and Court:

She proposed allowing local dialects to be used by lawmakers and legal practitioners in Parliament and courts, instead of the customary English laced with Latin phrases.

3. Loan Default is Not an Offence:

Akua Donkor declared that she would not permit the arrest and prosecution of loan defaulters. She also promised to release all individuals arrested for defaulting on loans.

4. Free Vehicles for Journalists:

She pledged that, if elected, her government would provide free vehicles to all journalists, believing they play a crucial role in national development and deserve government support.

5. Ban Jehovah's Witnesses from Government Positions:

During her 2020 campaign, Akua Donkor announced that she would expel Jehovah's Witnesses from government positions if elected.

She argued that since they do not participate in voting due to their religious beliefs, they should not hold public office, stating they would only be allowed to work in the private sector, engaging in activities like trading and farming.

6. Lock Up Homosexuals:

She also declared her intention to arrest and isolate homosexuals if elected, claiming that homosexuality is a sin against God's will.

She stated those involved should be kept in separate cells to prevent further acts, asserting that God created Adam and Eve, not Adam and Steve.

Akua Donkor's policies continue to resonate with many Ghanaians, reflecting her unique approach to politics and governance.
