A son of Ghana’s first President, Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, has asserted that his sister, Samia Yaba Christina Nkrumah, was manipulated by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to take over the reins of the party founded by their father, the Convention People’s Party (CPP).

Speaking in an interview on JoyNews’s PM Express, on August 6, 2024, Dr. Sekou Nkrumah indicated that Samia Nkrumah, a former Chairperson of the CPP, did not make much impact during her leadership of the party because she did not know its history and was manipulated.

“That’s the problem I had with my sister when she came back to Ghana because I realised that she didn’t know much. She was being manipulated by people to come into the country when she had no idea about her leadership of the CPP and so on.

“That’s a fact. I speak my mind and I want to believe that I speak the truth. The fact of the matter is that was what happened and she made a decision on leaving the CPP when the CPP did not change. It was the same because she didn’t have an understanding of our political history,” he told JoyNews’ George Wiafe.

Pressed by the journalist on which party manipulated his sister, Dr. Nkrumah said, “You remember I asked you the question, who was in power when she was brought to Ghana? Who was leading the CPP when she was brought to Ghana? Those should answer your questions.”

Asked whether the NDC was the party in power when his sister came back to Ghana, he retorted, “NPP was in power.”

Dr. Nkrumah made the point that the CPP and other smaller parties in Ghana are no longer able to make any meaningful impact in the country's politicking because the two leading political parties in Ghana, the NPP and the NDC, interfere in their activities.

“Are you not aware that all these smaller parties are manipulated by either NDC or NPP? That has been the issue since the 1992 Election?” he quizzed.
