There have been developments in the high echelons of power since Friday, January 19th when the vice president, Dr Mahamamudu Bawumia was taken ill by an undisclosed health condition.

It all started with some conflicting press statements claiming to be from the seat of the presidency about the health status of the vice president.

This mix up was later on clarified by an official statement from the Chief of Staff who clarified issues related to the Vice president's whereabouts.

The time frame for Bawumia's return is yet unknown as the government insists they don't know when he returns and that he is recovering very fast.

By some sort of coincidence, President of the republic, Nana Addo Danquah Akufo Addo, on Sunday, also left for the Swearing-in ceremony of Liberia's elected president, George Oppong Weah which happens on Monday 22, 2018.

What this meant is that having both the president and vice out of the country, the 1992 constitution mandates for the Speaker of Parliament, Professor Mike Ocquaye to be sworn in as the acting president of Ghana.

This will see the Speaker of parliament administer the duties of a ceremonial president till the return of Nana Addo on January 23rd.
