Police in Sawla in the Savannah Region have arrested two suspected armed robbers who operate on the Sawla – Wa highway.
The suspects are Yakubu Haruna, 24 and Seidu Haruna, 18. One of the suspects has been identified by one of his assailants, according to the police PRO in Northern Region, DSP Mohammed Yussif Tanko.
The arrest, DSP Tanko said, is a great breakthrough in the fight against robbery on the stretch. On August 27, 2019, a Guinness distribution Kia Rhino with registration number AS 4014-16 was robbed by two masked men at Yipala on the Tuna-Wa road.
The suspected robbers wielding guns made away with an amount of GHS15,000 and a mobile phone according to the driver of the truck, Kwabena Baah. After a while, Police received a telephone call from Yipala village that some youth of the community have gone to arrest two Fulani men loitering close to the robbery scene suspecting them to be responsible for the robbery.
Police in Sawla upon receiving the call immediately proceeded to the village where the two suspects were handed over to them for investigations.
A soldiers’ bag containing a jeans trouser, a black canvas and Aloba Apsonic motorbike No. M – 19 – UW 5632 were retained. The Rhino truck which was robbed in broad day light had the driver and two other sales assistance on board.
