President Akufo-Addo has been reacting to accusations by critics of his government that he has failed in delivering on promises made in the build up to the 2016 general elections, ABC News can report.
The Coalition for Social Justice (CSJ) has been leading a demonstration dubbed “KumYenPreko” to register its displeasure with what it describes as severe hardship in the country and failed promises of the Akufo-Addo administration.
Bigwigs of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Greater Accra Market Women Association, the Concerned Drivers Union, True Drivers Union, Free Media Vanguard, the Coalition for National Sovereignty, disgruntled MenzGold customers and unpaid customers of Gold Coast Fund Management all joined Tuesday’s demonstration in Accra.
According to the NDC, Nana Akufo-Addo and the NPP ‘lied’ their way to power hence, their inability to fulfill the several promises made in 2016.
But President Akufo-Addo has a response from far away France.
The President says his administration is on course to fulfilling promises made to Ghanaians during the 2016 electioneering campaign.
“We are on the path of trying to fulfill many of the promises that we made to the electorates in 2016. We just had a retreat before I left for Miami in reviewing the promises. A considerable amount of them has been fulfilled, still some are yet to be fulfilled but then we are two and a half years into our four-year mandate and what I continue to insist and tell the people of Ghana is that by the end of my mandate they will see that I came to tell them the truth about what I wanted to do. I didn’t come to deceive anybody”
According to President Akufo-Addo, his opponents could go on and say what they want but the the next elections will prove he did not come to deceive Ghanaians.
“I know that my opponents will be saying something else but that is alright, but that’s normal problem, it’s their right. They can put any twist that they like but they truth will be out and God willing on the 7th of December 2020, the day of accounting, we will know who’s telling the truth” he stated.
