Prominent member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko, has extended his congratulations to Energy Minister, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, following his endorsement as the running mate to Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia in the upcoming December polls.

In a post shared via X on July 6, the private legal practitioner extolled the abilities of Dr. Opoku Prempeh, who is affectionately known as NAPO. He recounted that their relationship dates back to the days before the think-tank Danquah Institute was established.

“Congratulations, Napo! The Presidential Candidate settled on you for very obvious reasons. He believes you to be the best partner to help him as his number two to win the 2024 presidential election and to help him deliver on his promises to Ghanaians if elected. I have known you for years (even before our days at Danquah Institute) and am aware of your strengths,” he wrote.

Gabby Otchere-Darko further highlighted NAPO's attributes, stating, “Your intellectual capacity, your strong work ethic, your generosity, your ability to deliver, your commitment to the values of Danquah, and your sheer verve to fight to succeed are the tools required for the task ahead.”

The NPP stalwart also urged the Vice Presidential candidate to remain focused and lend a supportive hand to the flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia ahead of the polls.

The NPP National Executive Council unanimously endorsed Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh on Thursday, July 4, 2024, after a decisive meeting was held to underline the constitutional mandate as per Article 13(3)(1) of the NPP Constitution, which empowers the Party’s presidential candidate, in consultation with the National Council, to nominate a vice-presidential candidate.
