Why Bawumia flew to the UK

The Minister of Information, Hon. Mustapha Hamid has debunked assertions and rumors going viral that Vice President, Dr Mahamadu Bawumia has been flown to the United Kingdom (UK) because he may be suffering from a severe ailment.

The vice President according to information from the flagstaff house, took ill and sought medical attention from his doctors on Friday, January 19, 2018.

It was then again reported that he had later been flown out of the country in the company of his wife, Samira Bawumiah upon the advice of his medical doctors.

The Information Minister however says the Veep had to travel out not for any reason but for the fact that, he needed to stay away for a while and have a rest.

“When he is in Ghana, people will come from all part of the country to visit him. Even me, I will try and visit him if he was in the country. Normally, when you are outside reach, then you are able to rest properly and have a total recovery”. He stated.

According to him, the primary reason is to get his medical attention and equally have enough rest.

Mr. Hamid says it was important the Veep’s sick leave was disclosed since the need for his whereabouts would have anyway been unveiled since the speaker, Prof. Aaron Mike Ocquaye needed to be sworn in as president.

The speaker is to be sworn in, Sunday because the President has flown out of the country to Liberia, to join other heads of states over Liberia’s President elect, George Oppong Weah’s inaugural ceremony.

Until the Presidents return on Tuesday, January 23, 2018, the speaker will be the nation’s president.
