Editor of the Kotoko Express newspaper, Jerome Otchere believes that the bigger objective of turning around the fortunes of Ghana football and restoring its lost image should be enough reason for unity and oneness between the GFA president and the Executive Council members.
The Executive Council of the association on Tuesday elected the Nzema Kotoko director Mark Addo to be the new vice president of the association.
Mark Addo polled six votes, two more than Randy Abbey who was heavily tipped to win. Dr Toni Aubynn of Medeama SC managed just one vote.
Jerome Otchere told GhanaWeb that though Randy’s experience and clout made him a good fit for the position, he was not surprised by Mark Addo’s election.
Jerome who worked with Kurt Okraku in his short stint with Dreams FC expects him and his vice to have a cordial relationship.
“I wasn’t surprised Randy lost because there had been predictions to the effect that Mark Addo was going to be the winner and I wanted Mark Addo to win so it didn’t come as a surprise to me. Randy was the best man for the job. If you look at the Congress before the elections, you could tell that his influence was strong. His argument was impressive. If you look at what he’s done previously and his knowledge of Ghana football, I think he would have been a good partner. Being on the Executive Council is enough”.
“I don’t know what plans Mark Addo have and how those plans will sit well with what Kurt said during the campaign but I have seen Kurt for some time and I have some firm understanding of how he operates and how he does his work. I think that he is a team player. I want to believe Mark Addo is also a team player. Once we all appreciate that our football has a problem and we want to solve it we will. Now the job will be to how to bring the entire executive council to a table and see how best there can be a unifying force to drive those ideas that they will have for negative football. I don’t see anything negative with that partnership”, he said.
