GFA waiting on government to decide future of 2019/20 GPL season

The Ghana Football Association will make a decision on whether to continue or end the 2019/20 season if they receive advise from the government.

The President of the Association, Kurt Okraku disclosed that there has been fruitful negotiations with Ministry of Health and other stakeholders on the way forward for the current campaign.

However, a decision will only be made after the government comes out with clear guidelines for the future of sports in the country.

“We took a decision to speak to the Ministry to intervene because we were heading in the right direction until the COVID-19. Football is perhaps one of the biggest vehicles in solving some of our social problems in this country,” he told Happy Sports.

“Fortunately for us, discussions have gone very well. We now waiting to hear from government. Its always been fruitful," he added.

Mr. Okraku also disclosed there has been discussion with member bodies like WAFU, CAF and FIFA pertaining COVID-19.

"Aside government, we have engaged WAFU, CAF and FIFA. FIFA president Gianni Infantino has decided to push the FIFA forward from July to an earlier date and so far it has been good,” he said.
