Finder Sports is reliably informed by deep-throat sources at the office of the Attorney General that the government is not relenting in its efforts to prosecute former Ghana Football Association boss, Kwesi Nyantakyi for allegedly defrauding by false pretenses.

It has been nearly a year since the former FA boss, was captured on tape in a sting operation by Anas Aremeyaw Anas and his Tiger Eye PI team in a documentary titled “Number 12’.

In that video, the FA boss was seen promising the undercover journalists who were posing as business investors, that he could give them unimpeded access to the office of the President and other high ranking officials of the government if they (the businessmen) could pay a bribe of about $12m.

The President was enraged by the misrepresentation of his person when the documentary was aired in June last year. He immediately instructed the security agencies to arrest Mr Nyantakyi.

Kwesi Nyantakyi who was out of the country at the time was declared wanted and was taken to the Police Criminal Investigative department upon his arrival in the country a few days after the documentary aired.
However, it would appear the case has gone cold with many in the dark about the status and progress of the case.

Last week, the pronouncement by the Deputy Attorney General, Godfred Dame that the current laws on bribery and corruption are only applicable to public officials and thus football officials who are private persons can’t be prosecuted created the impression that Mr Nyantakyi will be freed.

But our sources say even if Nyantakyi gets away with the bribery and corruption charge leveled against him, he may not be so lucky with the charge of fraud and defrauding by false pretenses.

“People are misreading the general comments the deputy AG made to mean that Nyantakyi can never be prosecuted for any infraction.

But I have told you that for the $60,000 he took and the related conduct of representing to supposed businessmen that he could connect them to the President, the A-G is preparing a docket to charge him for fraud. That is different from the charge of corruption,” our reliable source said.
