Former Sports Minister Nii Lante Vanderpuye says he is ‘deeply hurt’ by the life ban placed on former Ghana FA President Kwesi Nyantakyi.

The Adjudicatory Chamber of FIFA on Tuesday handed Nyantakyi a life ban and a fine of CHF 500,000 after finding him guilty for breaching relevant articles of the FIFA regulations on bribery and corruption, conflict of interest and commission.

Nyantakyi was one of the high-profile officials of the Ghana FA caught in a sting operation by journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas in alleged acts of corruption.

A number of referees also caught in the investigative report have also been handed various forms of bans by CAF.

Nyantakyi who had been initially handed a 90-day ban and subsequently a further 45, has now been banned for life.

One of the foremost critics of Nyantakyi, Nii Lante Vanderpuije who is the former Sports Minister says he is saddened by the decision.

“I'm deeply hurt by this development,” he said.

“This is not a good thing to wish on you’re a fellow human being.

“But the lesson thereof is there for everyone. That we ought to listen to wise counsel.

“People thought I hated Kwesi Nyantakyi but that was not the case at all.”

Kwesi Nyantakyi has since served notice of his intentions of appealing the decision.
