Kotoko fined and banned for President's Cup medal boycott

The Ghana League Club Association has fined Asante Kotoko 10,000 Ghana cedis (US$ 6,600) fine and handed a one year ban for boycotting the medal ceremony of the President’s Cup last week.

The club will also forfeit the cash prize due them for finishing participating in the Cup match played at the Accra Sport Stadium on 1 July.

GHALCA has also referred their disgraceful act to the Ghana Football Association’s disciplinary committee for further sanctions.

“Kotoko have been fined 10,000 Ghana cedis. The club will also lose the money they were supposed to take for playing the match and receive a year ban from all GHALCA organised competitions,” Interim chairman Alhaji Raji Ali told GHANAsoccernet.com

“We want the GFA to take further action on the matter because we have a border line and can’t go beyond that.”

The Porcupine Warriors unceremoniously left the field of play after being dealt a 7-6 penalty blow by the League champions Berekum Chelsea under the eyes of Ghana vice president John Mahama and other dignitaries.

The club were furious with referee Awal Mohammed for ordering the re-take of two missed spot-kicks.

This means Kotoko, which placed second in the just ended season, will not take part in the pre-season Top 4 tournament.
